Managed in Dayton, Ohio, this systems group is the primary software development group responsible for developing and maintaining IT systems that support logistics business processes serving the Air Force Materiel Command and meeting the direct and indirect logistic needs for over 350,000 military members worldwide.
The mission of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) is to provide the United States Air Force war fighter the right combat support information at the right place and at the right time across the full range of military operations. Supporting goals are to provide a single seamless source for combat support historical information; to provide state of the art decision support capability; and to minimize the adverse impact of decision support on systems processing transactions.
The Challenge
Relevant Air Force combat support data originates from at least 19 key functions that the Air Force uses to create, sustain and protect all aerospace capabilities. A gap existed in the ability to quickly access needed data across the legacy environment.
The Haverstick Approach
Haverstick’s role in this team has been to provide to the EDW PMO the technical oversight of the development team (NCR) and to provide the EDW PMO with data warehousing technical expertise. In this capacity, Haverstick has helped formulate the EDW strategic plan, written Requests For Information (RFIs) and evaluated the vendors’ responses, recommended architecture plans, and worked closely with NCR’s development team to ensure the quality and the timeliness of the project technical deliverables.
Haverstick has represented the PMO in technical discussions and decisions with the development team. This includes logical and physical modeling sessions between the EDW development team (NCR), REMIS system and data engineers (L/PRC), and representatives of the user community; development and implementation of the Extract, Transformation and Load (ETL) process; and technical guidance of user interface and decision support development. |
